Mid Europa Completes Acquisition of UPC Slovenia

15.7.2009

Mid Europa Partners announces that it has completed the acquisition of 100% of the Slovenian cable and broadband operator UPC Slovenia from Liberty Global, Inc. This follows the announcement of the transaction on 6 May 2009.

UPC is the leading provider of analogue and digital cable, as well as the leading broadband operator in Slovenia, servicing approximately 40% of the pay TV households in the country through its nation-wide network.

Robert Knorr, Partner of Mid Europa, said: “The completion of the acquisition of UPC Slovenia secures a high quality asset in a defensive sector in a Euro country, in what is the first leveraged buy-out transaction in Central and Eastern Europe since Q4 2008”.

Dragan Solak, head of SBB (the leading Serbian pay TV and broadband provider, acquired by Mid Europa in 2007) who will become chairman of the newly acquired asset said: “SBB and UPC Slovenia are complementary platforms that are leaders in their respective markets.  Their combination, together with our regional DTH platform TotalTV, has the potential to create the pre-eminent PayTV business in the territories of the former Yugoslavia, and I am looking forward to taking on this new challenge”.

The transaction was executed by Stefan Tzvetkov, Andrej Babace and Andreea Constantinescu from Mid Europa.
