In November 2009 Mid Europa acquired a 64.6% stake in the Company. Mid Europa subsequently acquired an additional 9.9% in late November, and after a tender offer, launched in December and completed in January 2010, currently holds 91.8% of the Company.
Invitel is the second largest fixed-line telecommunications and broadband internet services provider in Hungary, with approximately 20% market share and a national fibre network comprising circa 10,000 kilometres of fibre. Invitel is also a leading wholesale operator in the Central and South East Europe region with an international backbone networkcomprising approximately 23,000 route kilometres of fibre, with 40 points of presences in 19 different countries. It provides a triple-play offering of TV, internet and fixed voice in the residential segment and voice, data and ICT services to the business segment.
Mid Europa's history with Invitel and its management initiated through an investment made by Fund I in a 50-50 consortium with GMT Communications Partners, whereby they acquired 100% of the company in April 2003. Invitel completed a recapitalisation in July 2004 and the sale of the company to HTCC was agreed in April 2007.
